Jim Beard Memorial Scholarship

About Jim

Jim Beard grew up in Grimes County and graduated from Navasota High School. From there he attended and graduated from Texas A&M in 1978 with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. He tried several occupations, but ultimately decided to start a business in Navasota with State Farm Insurance. He received several accomplishments during his State Farm career, including Legion of Honor and Ambassador for Life awards.

Mr. Beard enjoyed volunteering his time to help others in our community. He served as President and Director of the Navasota Grimes County Chamber of Commerce in 1986 and again as President in 2010 at the time of his death.

Mr. Beard was also a Director of the Economic Development Committee, Navasota Education Foundation, Friends of Grimes County, Habitat for Humanity and Chairman and Committeeman of the Grimes County Fair Association Horse Committee.

This scholarship was created in memory of Jim Beard because of his strong belief in the value of kids. He knew that not all kids wanted to go to college, but that choice should not stop someone from achieving success. He believed very strongly in the importance and benefit of trade and technical schools and believed that people who work in a specific trade provide great value to our society and economy. It is with this belief that the Jim Beard Memorial Scholarship was created.
